In 1952 the Bjorge family emigrated from Bergen, Norway to Salt Lake. Academically trained in design, Randi Bjorge was an expert on ancient religious textiles, folk clothing and rosepainting, the decorative painting tradition that has distinguished Norwegian furniture and woodwork for centuries. She knitted this sweater for her husband, Kjell, when they were courting and he wore it for a number of years. It features one of the many traditional designs Randi documented in western Norweigan communities.
